Organic Ocean Seafood Inc. (Organic Ocean) was established as a distributor of premium seafood that is sustainably harvested or cultivated. Founded by fishermen who believe that sustainability is a social and economic imperative, Organic Ocean has worked in conjunction with various environmental organizations to become Canadas principal supplier of 100% sustainable seafood.
Initially, Organic Ocean focused on the few chefs who were on the vanguard of the sustainability movement and who were willing to source from the new and unproven supplier. The Organic Ocean creed that those who made environmentally friendly seafood choices and selected sustainable options for the good of our oceans were also obtaining the best ingredients was affirmed in 2009 when Organic Ocean was named Producer/Supplier of the Year in the annual Vancouver Magazine Restaurant Awards. In a little over a year, Organic Ocean was recognized by the Chefs Table Society of British Columbia for its depth of product knowledge, unparalleled service provision and consistency in supplying sustainable seafood in a city known around the world for the variety and quality of its fish and shellfish. In 2013, Organic Ocean was selected as a finalist for the Fish 2.0 Business Competition.
As the sustainable seafood movement migrated eastward, the leading chefs across the continent began embracing Organic Ocean and promoting its environmentally friendly food production practices, socially responsible values and extraordinarily high quality seafood to their clientele and culinary colleagues. This has seen Organic Ocean rapidly expand from supplying a handful of Vancouver restaurants to over 200 restaurants and retail outlets located throughout throughout Canada and the U.S.
